Pumpkin Carving Party Pics.

October 31, 2009

Thanks to everyone that came out and made Sharky’s Pumpkin Carving Party a successful event! We saw allot of familiar faces as well as a lot of new ones. Everyone seemed to be in the Halloween spirit as pumpkins were sliced, scooped, carved then given a lit candle to give us a creation that is as unique as the person that created it. You could see the enjoyment in everyones faces, both young and old, as they went home to display their new trophy on their doorstep. I don’t know who had more fun, the little kids or the big kids.  I think the award goes to Jason. He looked so intent and patient as he helped Riley carve her pumpkin outside on the bench. He was just grinning from ear to ear watching the enjoyment it gave her! Take a look at the pics below to see what a great time we had! See you next year and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

PARROT HEAD PARTY!!! NOV. 6TH!! LIVE MUSIC!!!

October 27, 2009

Since Jimmy dropped in to visit last month and make sure the Land Sharks were cold enough, we decided to keep the ball rolling with a MAJOR Parrot Head Party In the Shark Den on Friday Night, Nov. 6th, featuring Tom Watt-The Buffett Man and Fruitcakes Band- straight outta Pittsburgh, PA for a wild night of congas and grass Skirts!! Show starts at 9 pm and there is-as always, NO COVER! If you want to check out who he is go to www.tomwatt.com.

*A little about Tom:

Tom Watt, known to his loyal following as “The Buffettman,” has been dazzling fans around the U.S. for almost a decade. He has performed more than 1200 shows with his own unique tribute to both the music and spirit of the Jimmy Buffett concert experience. A true Jimmy double (in both looks and voice), Tom began performing his tribute show regularly in Pittsburgh, PA in 1998. By the following year he was performing Jimmy’s music up and down the east coast, from Key West, throughout Florida to the Carolinas and Virginia’s East Coast. Tom has been awarded the the International Guild of Celebrity Impersonators Award “Best Male Musical Star” as Jimmy Buffett (photos below). Tom also had the honor of being Jimmy’s photo double for the family comedy film “Hoot” (2006).

When Tom arrived on the movie set a small crowd gathered round, and he got questions from set people wanting to know what to do about this and that, how was his surfing trip this morning, what about the Manatees? All rapid-fire, and all at the same time. Finally he just said, ‘’We have a problem here… I’m not Jimmy.” Someone asked, “Well, If you’re not Jimmy, then who in the hell are you?” “I’m his photo double,” Tom said, and from then on he had a whole lotta fun foolin’ people. Finally when Jimmy got there it was Jimmy, Wil Shriner, Robert Wagner, and some other directors were conversing in the middle of the set area.  At this point Jimmy had his back to Tom. As he got close to them, Mr. Wagner began to smile and look at Tom and then Jimmy, back and forth, eyebrows raised, and finally Jimmy turned and saw Tom standing right beside him. He almost belly laughed—he looked Tom up and down, and said, “Man, you really do have this thing down! Come on, let’s get a picture.”

Ray and Knox’s surf trip to central america. Well I should say more of Knox’s trip, sorry Ray!

October 16, 2009

This is a little photo documentary with audio put together by surfline.com called when Groms Attack. It’s about the trip that Ray took Knox on in Aug. to Central America with some of the best amateur surfers on the east coast, we can’t say where cause we don’t want to give the spot away but maybe if you ask Ray nicely he will tell you. Looks like they had a lot of fun and the surf was great! Ray is mentioned in photo 10 and Knox has a great picture of him ripping up a wave and is talked about in photo 16. Now you can see and hear why this kid is one of the most talked about up and comers in the surf community and why he was just announced as a new Rip Curl Team Rider to their Junior World Team! There is a link below to get you to the site. Just copy and paste it to your browser, click next on the bar and listen to what they have to say.  Enjoy!

East Coast Surfing, Team Sharks Fin wins again

October 1, 2009

With a history of over forty years of success, ESA contests are organized at the grassroots, district level on a year round basis. Each District conducts four or more contests per year, and each year the ESA has over 150 competitions along the entire East Coast. From the local District level top finishers are invited to advance to Region competition (of which there are three), then the top finishers in those championship events are invited to the Eastern Surfing Championships held each September at Cape Hatteras N.C. This is the official championship of the East Coast of the United States and is now in its 4th decade!

In surfing circles, the popularity of the East Coast Surfing Championships is unparalleled.
But when it comes to importance for amateur surfers, the Eastern Surfing Association’s Grand Championships is the highlight of the year.
The 42nd Easterns competition was at Buxton on Hatteras Island Sept 20-26, 2009
“This is the ‘it’ event on the entire East Coast,” said Debbie Hodges, ESA director.
More than 600 youth and adult amateurs representing 26 districts in the ESA will be competing for the right to advance to the national championships in California.
Winners in each of the 24 divisions will move on.

Team Sharks Fin of Sharky’s Waterfront Restaurant in Ocean Isle Beach, NC was riding high one again. Ray Harris just missed the semi-finals in the Legends Long Board, sorry Ray. But the story of the week was one of young Knox Harris and Nick Rupp!

Nick Rupp, a Team Sharks Fin rider and a employee of Sharky’s Waterfront Restaurant, placed first over all in the Junior Mens Division by shredding the competition while defending his title and earning a chance to go to the finals in CA. Go Nick! Good luck at nationals!!!

Knox Harris surfed aggressive and flawless with all the right moves and waves and easily made it into the finals. With fierce competition and the surf starting to turn to wind slop, Knox was still able to take 6th place in the boys division with his great skill, poise and determination. Knox’s attitude, sportsmanship, dedication to the sport and to the ESA that he showed both on and off the water earned him a spot on the Eastern Surfing Associations All Star Team for the 2009-2010 year. These All Star Surfers are chosen from a criteria based on style, attitude, and performance; and are the pride of the Eastern Surfing Association. Congratulations Knox!! This kid will be a force to recon with in the up coming years!

A BIG CONGRATULATION TO KNOX, NICK AND RAY FROM SHARKY’S AND FROM THE OCEAN ISLE BEACH LOCALS FOR ALL THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE OUTER BANKS, NC AT THE  EASTERN SURFING ASSOCIATIONS BEST OF THE EAST COMPETITION!

Here is Nick Rupp’s spot on The New Pollution Show on Fuel TV so you can get to know some of our team riders.
